For All The Family
** Covid-19 Updated: 6th January 2021 **
Based on the government guidelines, face to face 121 training sessions can go ahead if:
> Social distancing is maintained at all times
> Outdoors and located in a public place
> Only one member attends from the household
Alternatively, the 121 can go ahead online (e.g. via Zoom)
Your first training 121 session with us:
For you to get the most out of your first training 121 session, it is important that we set you and your dog up for success.
The aim of the first 121 is to get you on the right track with some foundation training. This is so you can begin to work towards your end goal along with establishing a training plan together to prioritise what to focus on in the interim, without it being overwhelming.
How many sessions:
Training and advice required is unique and specific to you and your dog’s needs. Some people like to book in for one training session to go through puppy preparation prior to their puppy arriving, to then progress on to the puppy course. Other people want to tackle a few training issues or a deep rooted training issue which would require to have regular training sessions (e.g. fortnightly or monthly) to get to their end goal. For people having regular 121s, keeping in touch with video updates between sessions to evaluate progress can be really beneficial.
Environment is key to successful training, the current choices during the national lockdown are:
Online e.g. via Zoom or outdoors in a public setting
Pros for online for your first 121 session:
All the family can attend, take part and ask questions
You can make notes at the same time
I can show you practically with my own demo dog
It’s warm and dry indoors, as appose to cold, wet and dark outdoors
Home environment is more predictable
Generally there are less distractions, so it’s a better opportunity to learn, practice and ask questions about the training techniques
…
What gets rewarded gets repeated:
The aim is to equip you with strategies enabling you to be proactive in preventing the unwanted behaviour happening again, how to develop a new behaviour pattern and build the foundations of muscle memory of the behaviours you do want.
…
Learning criteria:
We also need to be realistic in the criteria of learning we are setting – it needs to be achievable and enable us to lay the foundations that will get you more success long term, rather than just rushing ahead and aiming for the end goal straight away.
Training takes time, patience, and consistency, so let’s be proactive rather than reactive to the behaviours you’re no longer wanting.
…
Your choice:
When booking for your first 121 session, let me which option you think will best set you and you dog up for success with the current choices of online via Zoom or outdoors in a public place.
